Unfortunately we were disappointed. Used to be a Mexican place, now with new decorations, gingham tablecloths, and blues music in the background instead of mariachi. The taste was just not that good, plain and simple. Pretty bland-tasting with not much complexity or (good) smoke flavor. I agree with the previous reviewer--the beef brisket tasted a bit too much like pot roast. The chicken sandwich my wife got was also underwhelming. The fried corn was good, as were the fries; the "famous" cole slaw had a different texture but pretty much the same flavor profile as KFC. The best sauce was the Papa's Pride, which reminded me of a tomato-molasses based sauce I had at a great BBQ joint in Houston, TX. The "Sweet & Smoky" sauce was more like "Sweet & Sticky" sauce, and the other 3 or 4 (you get about 6 varieties on your table a la Bandana's) were equally unimpressive. In my opinion these guys have a long way to go as far as quality Missouri BBQ is concerned--I wouldn't expect them to win any awards with the current techniques. Bandana's would be a safer choice, and compared to a place like Sugarfire up in the city, or Dexter Barbecue in southern MO, this place isn't even in the same category. I hope they are able to step up their game, but as it is, to say it's "just OK" would be a bit generous.

The fried green tomatoes and the porksteak were just about the only redeeming qualities about this place. The service was fine, the bbq sauces were all pretty bad and tasted like a bunch of pepper and spices thrown together. I got the smoked turkey which was thick sliced processed turkey that was very dry. Sorry, but I'll drive the extra 15 minutes to Bandana's, or any other BBQ place next time.

Disclaimer: Opening night review We went there opening night, so I assume the quality of wait staff and speed of food will get better (it was really slow). I have no idea why BBQ would take 45 minutes to come out. I've been to many high quality establishments that churn out that high quality stuff in minutes time. The beans were great. The rest was horrible. Granted I have an extremely high bar for ribs and pulled pork, but this wasn't even passable. I will go back. Maybe they had a bad first day. But this wasn't a good first impression. On a good note, there was no smoking and the atmosphere was very good. Loved the BB King, Muddy Waters, and Eric Clapton soundtrack. Very choice. Prove me wrong, I want to love this place! I just can't yet.

Lots of servers and the place was packed on the 5th day open. Very slow service, 55 minutes after we ordered we got our food- BBQ chicken salad, and pulled pork sandwich. Although I can forgive the slow service of a just opened restaurant since they are understandably working the kinks out, the BBQ was average/below average. The chicken was very dry and tough, added more sauce, but finally gave up trying to chew through! The croutons in the salad were inedible they were so soggy. The standard sauce was just ok, although we only got to try one type since they never brought the rest of the sauce types. (There was supposed to be all the sauces on each table). Baked beans and cole slaw were standard, good but nothing special. Might consider another visit, after they have been open a while.

Mighty Fine. Just what we wanted. Pulled pork sandwich with 5 BBQ sauces-I enjoyed the smokey sweet and wife loved the Carolina. Add sides of potato salad and beans or coleslaw umm good. Locals like the pork steak and brisket. This is dry rub Memphis style-you add the sauce if you choose to. Thanks. On our way to Florida.

Just left the new smokehouse BBQ place in crystal city and all I can say is very unimpressed. First arriving through the doors the hostess had their backs turned to us and were chit chatting away. We didn't know if we should seat ourselves or if we were supposed to let them take us to our seats. Once we arrived our server came. I couldn't tell you if she told us her name or not but we ordered our drinks and an order of fried pickles. The pickles came out reasonably but they were served as quite large spears making the pickles raw and not enough dough ratio to pickle. Sauce was quite sweet too. I was only able to eat one pickle and then our food came. My fiancé had the hotdog sandwich which was tasteless and an order of half slab ribs. Sides were cucumber salad and French fries. He said the best thing was his fries and beer. I had ordered 2 pick combo which included ribs and turkey with baked potato loaded and green beans. The ribs had smoke flavor but nothing else. The turkey was dry and didn't even taste like they put salt or pepper on it. The baked potato was cold and the chunks of bacon were literarily large chunks couldn't even prepare the baked potato because the bacon was in the way. Green beans tastes like they were out of a can with no flavor or seasonings added to it. An the cucumber salad had different sizes of cucumber throughout, swarming in a thick balsamic vinegar. None of the food was warm. Very unimpressed and will never return.

Hands down without a debate, the best BBQ in town! I have eaten a lot of BBQ in my day, and have had my share of some of the tastiest around. decided to check this out on a recommendation from my partner, and when I did make it over I wasn't disappointed in the least bit. first off, everything is made in house which accounts a lot for the home style taste, on my first time visit, I ordered the 1/2 slab dinner, which was comparatively priced with other BBQ houses, it came with a very nice portion of ribs and 2 sides, my selections were the baked beans and applesauce. The ribs are served dry coated in a deliciously flavored rub seasoned with their own recipe, I tried the sweet St. Louis style sauce and I tried a bourbon glaze as well. The sauces were very tasty and I liked the fact they are made at the restaurant, and while I liked both of the flavors they added to the taste of the ribs, I chose to eat my ribs with just the rub and I am glad I did. the meat was extremely tender, and came completely off the bones without any effort at all. the rub combined with the delicious smokey flavor of the ribs was a delight to my pallet. the baked beans are very home style, and have a very heavy smokey taste to them and are very delicious. since this visit I have had 2 more meals and all 3 have been awesomely incredible.. I have had both a full slab and a 1/2 slab meals, as well as one of their incredible 20 oz pork steak, that you don't even need a knife to cut it, as it is so extremely tender and tasty.. I'm not understanding the comments about the service here, it's a rib house, not fine dining! I have had great service on every visit, the staff has been friendly and helpful, and I will most definitely return for more tasty BBQ.. they have been around for a short time, however they jumped into the game knowing exactly how to play, and are kicking some serious BBQ butt! I highly suggest ordering their corn on the cob, its a perfect compliment to the meat! Kudos Kettlehut, you have us hooked

The wife and son both had the chicken bbq salad which is a salad. Myself I did the pick 2 and went with pulled pork and brisket. The pulled pork had no texture, mush. Not good. The Brisket.... mmmm it wasn't brisket that you think and want. It was more like pot roast. The cole slaw was the best part of my meal. I won't be coming here again.

This is the 2nd time going here, I don't like to judge a place after only one time so that's why I went back. I ordered the brisket the first time and thought it was bland and tasted like it was baked. Truthfully it was like pot roast, not really what you would look for in a brisket. So the second time back I ordered 1 lb of brisket and 1 lb of smoked turkey, the brisket was the same and tasted like a smoked pot roast, the turkey had a good taste but was really dry and crumbly. I think the guy doing the smoking should take a trip to KC MO and taste some real brisket. I don't think there are to many choices for bbq in the area but this place doesn't do it right in my opinion. I guess all I can say is try it for yourself and you will see what I mean. Oh and another note, I weighed the boxes of each meat when I got home and both came to 14oz, so they short you on meat when ordered by the pound.

Just left this place. Never met a Q place where the Pork Steaks were more tender than the pulled pork. The pulled pork was just OK, but GENEROUS portion. The largest, thickest rubbed Pork Steak ever served without a steak knife, because they are just that tender. They covered the plate and were probably 10 inches long and definitely an inch thick. Janis said the BEST Pork Steak she has ever eaten. We will be driving back down for these piggies. The next table said the ribs are killer, and the other next table said to try their burgers. I am from The South and there are Strict RULES about Tater Salad. I didn't hate the potato salad, but I didn't LOVE it at all. It was really STRANGE. It was more of a Mustard Tater Salad with Pickles and I didn't see any egg,. If that sounds right to you, try it. It was a nice amount. They have loaded baked potatoes which Janis got and she said it was good. Whipped margarine was a DOWN. Where's my REAL BUTTER. Sour cream came in tubes, which I can live with. Waitresses were exceptional, not just ours, but the other girls were nice to neighboring tables. This is a pretty large place with a bar, a few TVs, however, THE MUSIC playing was KILLER, we wanted to stay just for the tunes. When does that happen, without dropping coins at Courtesy. I will have to say that they need to move the bucket sink away from eyesight of the bathrooms, that almost sent me out the door before we ordered, however so many people had said to drive-down and give this place a try while antiquing, so we did. Please, please, I hope the owner/manager reads this and does something about the lighting at the booths. Lower those wattage bulbs and/or raise that fixture. Too hot on our poor ol' noggins. We probably should have tried a dessert. They have home-made pies. Butterfinger Pie and 2 others and we can't recall their names, but they did look DELICIOUS.

The whole family was out and we all tried different items off the menu. None of the BBQ was up to par and the sauces were all off flavor. The service was pretty good but it did not make up for the food. Main Street BBQ has much better food and the sauces to choose from are all better than this restaurant. The price is kinda on the steep side as well.

Having eaten BBQ all over the country I find Kettlehut's the best ribs ever. Home style BBQ beans are outstanding. The overall menu is delicious and reasonably priced.

The food was great. I have eaten some good BBQ throughout the Midwest and this was right up there with best ones. My wife has eaten there several times and loves the pulled pork. I had the Pick 2 and got the ribs and brisket. Both were perfect excellent. I will be eating there again. Service was great and they had lots of wait staff. It was a Saturday evening and they were busy.

Great BBQ, AND great sides. And that's a big thing ya know. I know you don't get BBQ for the sides, but Too many BBQ joints neglect their sides. Not these guys, they're all made in-house from scratch. Even the tea tasted like they'd actually tried it to make sure it was good. We've been here twice now and had something different both times and all of it was delicious. The people are nice, the service is excellent. Oh and did I mention the sides are great?!
